Round 5 of the South African National Motocross Championship headed to Rover in Port Elizabeth, where riders were greeted by two days of exciting racing and ideal winter conditions.
Friday's open practice set the tone for an action-packed weekend, with competitors quickly finding their rhythm ahead of Saturday's championship races. Morning temperatures hovered around 8°C before warming to a comfortable 19°C, while light winds provided near-perfect racing conditions throughout the event.
The 50cc riders competed on the dedicated junior circuit, while the senior classes tackled the main track, which had been expertly prepared and featured the reverse direction layout from the previous year's National Championship. The change added a fresh challenge for competitors, with riders battling for every holeshot, block pass, and championship point in Rover's demanding sandy terrain.
From the 50cc classes through to MX1, spectators were treated to spectacular racing, featuring runaway victories at the front and fierce midfield battles throughout the field. In the soft sand conditions, the Pirelli MX Soft (Scoop) once again proved to be the tyre of choice for many of the leading riders, delivering the traction and performance needed to tackle the challenging circuit.
The standout class of the weekend was undoubtedly MX2, where both motos produced intense, high-speed battles from start to finish. The pace, close competition, and determination of the riders made it one of the highlights of Round 5.
